AS the nation looks forward to Independence Day, poets from around Bulawayo have collaborated with other artistes in bringing one sensational show which seek to celebrate the liberation of the arts on 28 April at Bulawayo Theatre.
The much awaited show is pretty much a mix of poetry, hip-hop, comedy, fashion and fine arts, poetry being the main act with acts from various poets such as Lady Tshawe, Asa P1704, Izwi, J Dumza, Keithswic da poet and Cyper on the line-up.
Dubbed the Liberal Concert, the show is a brainchild of Keith Moyo with the help of Swic Management, Yati Yati productions and Arts Hub Zimbabwe among others.
“We were linked to some of Bulawayo’s amazing poets who have been in the industry for a long time who understand the true form of performance. We also had conversation with some of the brilliant designers, hip-hop artistes, fine artists who agreed to be part of this unique event,” Moyo said.
Asked what motivated him to come with such a unique show, he said he was driven by that artistes have to celebrate their freedom as they are able to express their art freely.
“This show was motivated greatly by being free to create art without the pressure of being judged by people and that to us as artistes is liberation. And we chose to hold it in the same month we also celebrate Independence Day as Zimbabweans to save as a mark of our growth as artistes.”
Moyo revealed that the show promises to be unlike any other show that the City of Kings has ever experience before as it will be hosted by Bulawayo’s energetic hosts Donna N and T1nda.
“The main act of the show is going to be poetry but it’s not going to be like your typical poetry show where there’s a poet on stage, it’s going to embody poetry with so many elements and art forms to create something that Bulawayo people have never seen before, something totally different from what we are used to,” he said.
Moyo said they are aiming to take the show to the world and make it an annual event.
“Since it’s pretty much the first one in the line of many to come we decided to take it home and see how Bulawayo rates it before we take it to the next level which is Zimbabwe poetry to the world,” he said. -@kayskudzai
