National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) leader Professor Lovemore Madhuku has praised the concept of the Political Actors Dialogue (Polad), saying the idea is progressive and should be made permanent.
Professor Madhuku said Zimbabwe needs a brand of politics that is a departure from the zero-sum approach of the past.
“Polad is a very important way of governing society, the NCA is clear on that. This party believes in the fact that governance is an affair of those that have won elections and those that have lost elections,” said Professor Madhuku.
He made these remarks at a press conference in Harare, responding to claims that he has sold out by accepting to work with the current administration through Polad.
Polad principals received vehicles last week and opposition figures have been using the fact to try and mobilise Zimbabweans against the platform.
Professor Madhuku, said the criticism is unfair and is coming from those who do not want to see political harmony in the country.
He thanked President Mnangagwa for opting to listen to losing opponents, when he had the chance to walk the journey alone.
“We are losers when it comes to the 2018 election but we are saying once you lose, that is not the matter but you have an opportunity to work with the winner. We want to thank President Mnangagwa for choosing to work with us,” said Professor Madhuku.
Professor Madhuku said despite aspersions being sent by those that oppose Government on the internet, they have been working with citizens across the board to ensure that key issues that need political solutions.
He revealed that they have been working with NGOs including Zimbabwe Electoral Support Network, Electoral Resource Centre and Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights to pursue legal and electoral reforms.
