police have blocked plans by the Zimbabwe National Soccer Supporters Association to stage a six-hour demonstration at the Sports Commission offices tomorrow.
The supporters had requested clearance from the police to hold a demonstration calling for Zimbabwe’s return into the international football fold.
However, police have refused to sanction the demonstration because the notice did not meet the requirements.
“I acknowledge receipt of your notification letter dated 22 March 2023 in respect of the above heading whereby you intend to hold a Public Demonstration at Sports and Recreation Commission offices which are situated at the National Sports Stadium, Harare, on the 6th of March 2023, between 1000 hours and 1600 hours,” the officer commanding Harare Suburban District, Chief Superintendent, R Chuma, advised ZNSSA secretary-general Joseph Mutawu.
“However, please be advised that your notification has not been sanctioned as it does not fully comply with the requirements outlined in Section 5 of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act Chapter 11:23.
“I thank you in advance for your cooperation.”
The ZNSSA leadership have been at the forefront of a movement to try and force the Sports Commission to reinstate Felton Kamambo and his board into the leadership of ZIFA.
They feel it’s the only way Zimbabwe will be accepted back into the FIFA fold, enabling the national teams to once again compete against their compatriots.
However, sports authorities in the country, led by Sports Minister Kirsty Coventry, insist that the pain is worth the sacrifice because the rot in the national game has to be cleaned.
