Police clear air on dead ranger

Police have ruled out foul play in the death of Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority game ranger Mr Kennedy Zvavahera whose naked corpse was found in Gonarezhou National Park in March.
The 31-year-old, The Sunday Mail has established, had liver disease.
The death had been linked to the ongoing “war” between ZimParks patrol teams and poachers, some of whom are believed to be coming from Mozambique.
It also came as villagers who live around the game park — mainly the Chitsa people — spoke of the bad blood between them and parks authorities who are pushing for their relocation.
National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said, “The postmortem revealed that he had a liver disease and according to the doctor who conducted it, it’s possible for someone with such a condition to suddenly die.
“The circumstances are that this game ranger had taken off his clothes to take a bath in a stream that is in the game park when he met his fate.”
A villager in the area said: “It still remains a mystery to us even after the postmortem.
‘‘Firstly, his shorts were found metres away from his body. His overall seemed to have been neatly placed on the ground as though one wanted to lie on it.
“The gumboots were also positioned as if one wanted to use them as a pillow. What is surprising is that there was mud all over his body.”
