The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced a significant deployment of officers across the country to ensure safety during the Heroes and Defence Forces holidays.
This initiative includes roadblocks, stop-and-search operations, patrols, and public awareness campaigns aimed at promoting law and order. Police Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba emphasized the importance of maintaining peace during this period.
He highlighted the need for vehicle owners to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent accidents. He recalled the recent Seke Road accident as a stark reminder of the importance of vehicle safety. Regular maintenance and servicing are crucial to ensure that vehicles are roadworthy.
The ZRP has made it clear that unroadworthy vehicles will be impounded, and this includes any vehicles lacking proper registration or those without number plates. The police are also cracking down on unauthorised modifications to vehicles. Comm Gen Mutamba mentioned vehicles illegally fitted with blue lights or sirens, which are reserved for official use. He stated that only ambulances may use sirens and red lights in emergencies,
