There is heavy police presence at the Harare Exhibition Park to ensure law, order and safety for the benefit of show-goers and the general public, the chief police spokesperson has said.In an interview at the Harare Show Grounds, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba yesterday said police would maintain heavy presence at the grounds.
“There will be maximum security until the end of the show days. We have deployed police officers to various areas to ensure that peace prevails,” she said. She said parents and guardians should also assist the police officers by not allowing their children to stray.
“It is the role of the police to ensure order but parents and guardians should also assist by making sure that their children are at safe places,” she said.
She said police had more visible posts in the grounds where the public should report cases. Yesterday police were carrying out awareness campaigns educating people on how to take care of their children.
This year’s Harare Agricultural Show is running from August 23 to 31 under the theme “Environment, Entrepreneurial and Educational”. Last year no information of missing children was reported at the Harare Agricultural Show and no serious criminal cases were reported.
In 2011 two cases of theft were recorded and a missing person report was made for Given Flint Matapure, who went missing at the exhibition park during show days.
His remains were discovered in April last year at the show grounds.
