A 52-YEAR-OLD Harare man, Elijah Meskano, was arrested at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport on Wednesday while attempting to flee the country.

The arrest follows a police investigation into an alleged property fraud case involving a high-value residential stand in Gletwyn.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the arrest.

“Police arrested a man in connection with fraud,” he said.

“The investigation was launched after a tip-off alerted authorities to Meskano’s activities. He was apprehended just as he was about to board an international flight.

“The case revolves around a valuable property purchased by a local construction businessperson Maria Mafunga in 2017.”

The complainant had bought the 2,916m2 stand from Ushe Ndibaba and subsequently developed houses valued at approximately US$580 000.

The fraud came to light when the owner began receiving utility bills addressed to a different name. This discrepancy prompted a deeper investigation, which revealed that the property ownership documents had been illicitly altered. Police are now working to determine the full extent of Meskano’s alleged fraudulent activities.
