Tanyanyiwa said the April sports gala could not take place because of funding challenges.
He said they usually receive funding from the fiscus which they top up with other sponsorships and money raised from affiliation fees by the provinces.
“I have just been advised that the Bulawayo Games have been called off as a result of lack of funding from the fiscus. We will now have one competition in August in Harare.
“It’s unfortunate because quite a number of the participants had started preparing for the national finals,” said Tanyanyiwa.
Meanwhile, Tanyanyiwa said the force will continue to work hard to consolidate its position as the regional powerhouse in sport. “We are the regional champions and we want Zimbabwe to continue dominating and next year we are going to Namibia for the championships.
“We want very good teams and we are happy with the support we have been getting from the Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri,” said Tanyanyiwa.
Uniformed services are the backbone of sport in most countries in Africa.
Unit Fairbridge are the only Zimbabwe club to have won the Zone Six volleyball club championships. Tanyanyiwa said the nation should expect champions in a number of sporting disciplines in the next five years.
