Police are hunting for one more person suspected of sourcing funds for shadowy Facebook character Baba Jukwa. Police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said in a statement yesterday that they were looking for a Zimbabwean-based in South Africa – Chawarika Matongorere, in connection with the sourcing of funds for the Baba Jukwa project and posting subversive material.
“Chawarika Matongorere a Zimbabwean based in South Africa is required by police for questioning in connection with the sourcing of funds for Baba Jukwa project and posting of subversive material,” said Snr Ass Comm Charamba.
“Anyone with information on the exact location of Matongorere should contact officer commanding law and order section Harare on the following numbers 04 777777, 04 703631.”
The blogger launched a cyber-war targeting President Mugabe, government ministers, senior government officials and security chiefs ahead of last year’s general elections.
The State claims Sunday Mail editor Edmund Kudzayi and his brother Phillip, who are both out on bail, were behind the Facebook page.
The brothers face charges of attempting to subvert a constitutionally-elected government and attempting to commit acts of insurgency, banditry, sabotage or terrorism.
Edmund is also facing an additional charge of undermining the authority of the President and keeping ammunition in an unsecured place.
Both deny the charges being levelled against them.
Last month police released a list of 12 people wanted in connection with the investigations into the Facebook character.
The list includes the husband and wife team of Wilf and Trish Mbanga, the UK-based publishers of The Zimbabwean newspaper as well as the weekly’s South Africa correspondent, Mxolisi Ncube.
