Police in Gokwe North have arrested a 33-year-old woman on suspicion of draining the blood from a 10-year-old girl at Gokwe Centre.
Mavis Sibanda, a market stallholder selling clothes at Gokwe Centre, is at the centre of the investigation.
The motives behind the alleged act remain unclear.
Midlands Provincial police spokesman, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the shocking incident that has left Gokwe Town residents shell-shocked.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police arrested a 33-year-old woman on allegations of assault involving the draining of blood from a 10-year-old juvenile. The case occurred in Gokwe Town on 26 May 2025 at about 10 am,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said the suspect Mavis Sibanda of Gokwe, was at her marketplace in Gokwe town when the incident took place.
“It is alleged, she called a 10-year-old girl who was passing by and injected her with a needle before draining blood that filled the syringe,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said Sibanda was arrested and is in police custody as investigations are being done.
