POLICE’S Harare Provincial Anti-Stock Theft Unit has joined forces with Simbisa to raise awareness against selling or buying unlicensed meat.

Speaking at the Provincial Anti-Stock Theft Unit relaunch, Officer Commanding Harare, Commissioner Wonder Tembo said the police will continue to fight against stock theft, and other related crimes.

“It is time that cattle rustlers know that their days are numbered.

“We want our populace to be wary of uninspected meat.

“They should not buy or consume meat from street vendors and unlicensed abattoirs or butcheries.

“While the price of such meat may be low, the uninspected meat is a potential health hazard,” said Comm Tembo.

He said Harare is also a hub of chicken production and they are also raising awareness on their safekeeping.

“Gone are the days when chickens would be kept in poorly constructed fowl runs placed far away from the house.

“They have to be in well-secured fowl runs where thieves can’t easily steal them.”

The awareness campaign will spread to Domboramwari in Epworth, Koala Park, Mbare, Tichagarika Shopping Centre, Glen View, Whitehouse, Matombo and Reinham.
