POLICE have named seven directors, who were arrested this Monday for operating an illicit brewery at Arlington Industrial Park in Harare.
They are Praveen Kumarreddy (28), Manohar Reddy Yarraguntla (39), Amaranath Reddy Gundra (24), Srikanth Reddy Jonnala (39), Ramesh Yepuri (37), Sekhar Reddy Kambam (34), and Yugandlar Reddy Samala (34).
The Samna Liquor company directors are alleged to have been manufacturing and distributing four types of beer labelled Jay-Dox Vodka, Happy Cheers Mint Vodka, Happy Cheers whiskey premium and Jay-Dox brandy.
The company has been making the illicit brews since last year.
At least 25 workers were also arrested in connection with the case and have since been released after being fined, while the directors will all appear in court today.
In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests.
“Reference is made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s post on X handle regarding the arrest of seven company executives and 25 employees on June 30, 2025 at Arlington Industrial Park, Hatfield, Harare in connection with manufacturing illicit brews using ethanol, water, flavouring agents and supplying them to the public through shops in the country,” he said.
“The seven suspects will appear in court today on July 2, 2025, while the 25 employees have since paid fines for working without food handlers’ health certificates.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges liquor manufacturers and dealers to regularise their operations in accordance with the country’s laws and regulations.
“The public is implored to exercise caution when purchasing alcohol in order to safeguard health, safety and security.”
