Police have named six of the eight people killed, while 31 others were injured, when a Zupco bus collided with a fuel tanker early Wednesday near the 168km peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the bus was heading towards Harare, while the fuel tanker was travelling south.
The six now named are Clifford Mazhakata (39) of Budiriro 1, Rangarirai Chivore (45) of ZRP Fairbridge in Bulawayo, Benson Nyamutsamba (49), Simanga Chuma (35), Nkazimulo Gumbo (22), all from Bulawayo and Takudzwa Mafunga (22) of Zupco Kwekwe Depot.
“Meanwhile, the names of the remaining two victims will be announced in due course,” said Asst Comm Phiri.
“The ZRP urges drivers to be very careful with night driving. Bus operators are implored to comply with safety measures put in place by the Government in order to save lives on the roads.”
Police are still conducting investigations on the case and those that were injured were taken to Kadoma General Hospital.
