Police officer arrested over alleged obstruction of justice

Online Reporter

A police officer has been arrested on allegations of attempting to defeat the course of justice following investigations linking him to suspects affiliated with the Mthwakazi Republic Party.

The officer, Zwelibanzi Mhlanga, was taken into custody after it emerged that he had allegedly been in contact with individuals from the Mthwakazi Republic Party who had earlier been arrested.

Sources close to the investigations said authorities are still working to establish the nature of the alleged collusion and Mhlanga’s exact intentions.

It is understood that the arrest followed internal investigations, which raised concerns about possible interference in police processes.

Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing and have not yet disclosed further details, citing the sensitivity of the matter.

Authorities say more information will be released once preliminary inquiries are complete.

The offence of defeating or obstructing the course of justice is treated seriously under Zimbabwean law, particularly where it involves law enforcement officers, as it undermines the integrity of the justice system.

Mhlanga is expected to appear in court once investigations are finalised and formal charges are laid.
