Who will police the police?
A Police officer stationed at Jambesi Police station is facing hard times for allegedly sexually attacking a 13-year-old girl behind the shops.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) official statement on 18 January this year at around 1230 AM the accused who was at the shops saw the 13-year-old teenager and her cousin sitting a few meters from the shops before he approached them.
It is alleged the accused cop questioned the pair on why they were at shops at very late hours and they told him that they were waiting for their sister.
After that he allegedly dragged the minor to a secluded place where he reportedly fondled her breasts and kissed her. It is alleged he then raped her.
He allegedly bought the victim and her cousin soft drinks and biscuits to buy her silence.
After a couple of minutes her sister arrived and the minor informed her. The incident was reported to the police leading to the arrest of the cop. He appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate facing a rape charge.
He was not asked to plead. He was remanded in custody until 7 February.
He was advised to apply for bail at the High court
