Police pledge support for Zim sovereignty

In an interview recently, Comm Gen Chihuri said the force would only support the sovereignty and independence of Zimbabwe.
“The ZRP will not be part and parcel of those people who promote the agenda of imperialists.
“Those roaming around the country, promoting such ideas, we won’t support them
“Anybody trying to bring in foreign ideas will have the shock of their lives, we don’t support them,” he said.
The Comm-Gen also said the force needed adequate funding for its operations as they were not obtaining enough from treasury.
Lack of funding has been hampering police operations countrywide.
Recently the force requested US$1,8 million from treasury for operations but was given US$200 000.
The money was used to buy books, desks and chairs for training police officers among other needs.
Comm-Gen Chihuri took a swipe on people, organisations and some sections of the media that had been accusing the force of abusing human rights countrywide.
“We have been training (officers) human rights since 1995.
“Human rights are the rights of Zimbabweans,” he said.
While addressing chiefs in Mutare on Thursday, President Mugabe lamented that some of the people in the inclusive Government were acting against the wishes of the people by refusing to implement pro-poor policies.
