impoundment, last week appeared in court charged with robbery of a motor vehicle.
Zanele Gumede (24) was not formally charged when she appeared before Harare magistrate, Mr Don Ndirowei, who remanded her in custody to October 27 this year.
She was advised to apply bail at the High Court.
Prosecutor, Mr Daniel Muchimbiri, alleged that on October 10 this year at about 0300hrs, the complainant was at Gumede’s residence.
Gumede is alleged to have connived with three policemen who are still at large to rob the complainant of his Toyota Camry with Mozambican registration numbers.
Pursuant to her plan, it is alleged, she called the three officers using her cellphone, inviting them to her house to arrest her “client” and rob him of his vehicle.
Acting on her directives, the three officers went to her house and knocked on the door before introducing themselves as police officers seeking to know the owner of the Camry in question.
They allegedly took the complainant where he had parked and advised him to drive to Avondale Police Station, but he resisted, opting for Harare Central Police Station, which was nearer.
The policemen ordered the complainant to stop at the of Corner Herbert Chitepo and Fife Avenue.
The complainant complied and two of the cops disembarked from the vehicle, with one of them wielding a pistol, ordering the complainant to get out.
Fearing for his life, the complainant got out leaving the engine running and one cop remained inside.
Mr Muchimbiri said the policeman who remained in the car drove off, leaving the complainant with the other two who advised him to follow them to Avondale Police Station.
At around 3am, Gumede allegedly called the complainant to come to her house and collect his car, which had been returned by the policemen. The complainant recovered his vehicle without its registration plates, insurance and licence disks and its seat covers were torn.
The vehicle is valued at US$14 000.
