Addressing journalists after the Politburo meeting last night, Zanu-PF national spokesperson Cde Rugare Gumbo said the Politburo asked the two departments to align Section 8 of the rules and regulations so that Zanu-PF could come up with a date for the primary elections.
He said the revolutionary party was expected to come up with the dates for the primary elections next week if the two departments find consensus.
“We have decided that they should go and align the two proposals, the one by the women’s league and the one by the legal committee that had hammered out the rules and regulations so we are not yet through,” Cde Gumbo said.
“We have to finalise that, then we can go to the primary elections. We are going to be meeting regularly. We will be meeting next week on Wednesday, so we will again debate those rules and regulations. We hope by that time there will be consensus between the legal committee and the women’s league.”
He said the women’s league had proposed other provisions that the party would consider.
He said it was ideal for aspiring party candidates to wait for the rules and regulations to be announced for them to start campaigning.
Some aspiring candidates, he said, could spend so much money campaigning only to find out that the rules and regulations would have disqualified them.
Cde Gumbo said Zanu-PF wanted to come up with a message that would identify with the people.
The party’s probe team, Cde Gumbo said, would present its findings from the provinces it has toured and those it would have toured by next Wednesday.
The team tasked with checking the party’ state of preparedness ahead of the harmonised elections has been to Masvingo and Mashonaland Central provinces.
The probe team led by national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo is today visiting Mashonaland West and will be in Mashonaland East on Monday.
The team has visited Bulawayo, Manicaland and Harare provinces
Cde Khaya Moyo has since indicated that party structures in the provinces they have toured were in good shape to ensure a resounding victory for the revolutionary party at the forthcoming polls.
