Polygamy Drama: Wife Bars Husband from Other Wives Over Money, Abuse Claims

A WOMAN in a polygamous marriage is blocking her husband from visiting his other three wives because she claims he is using her money to take care of them.

Jane Mutasa claims her husband, Steve Maphosa, bought houses for his other three wives using her money.

She claims Maphosa is also raising children with the three women but forces her to abort every time she falls pregnant.

Mutasa was granted a protection order.

“He broke my heart and he is even saying he wants to marry another woman, he used my money to buy houses for his other wives.

“He is now insulting me and threatening to bring another wife even after promising me he will not do anything like that.

“I can’t let him be with the other women,” said Mutasa.

She added;

“He forced me to abort for no reason and threatened to harm me if I refused.

“Recently, he stole US$300 from my wallet and bought a new bed for his second wife. He is now throwing me out of my house and harassing me after I caught him in bed with another woman.

“He has also conspired with his second wife to send nude pictures to my ex-boyfriend.”

Maphosa denied the allegations.

“It’s been two months since I last engaged in sexual relations with my other three wives.

“She was well aware that I had three other wives when I married her and she is now restricting me from pleasing my wives.

“She assaulted my second wife after she found her sleeping with me in her bedroom,” he said.

He also claimed Maphosa has been making false police reports against him so that he doesn’t get a chance to visit his other wives.

Presiding magistrate Judith Taruvinga urged the couple to seek professional help.
