Pool association goes digital

THE Bulawayo Pool Association on Saturday launched a website during their end of year awards ceremony held at Raylton Recreation Club.
BPA publicity secretary Donald Wadawu said this was an initiative to spread news, results and log standings to their followers.
“Pool is a fast growing sport, especially here in Bulawayo so we took this opportunity to go digital so that our followers can have easy access to our results and updates,” said Wadawu.

Wadawu said there are looking forward to better 2014.
“This year has been a success, but we are looking forward to new developments, the launch of the website has been the first step and we hope more teams will join next season,” he said.

Champions Kings walked away with $2000, double the prize money they received after winning the league last year.
Kings were also crowned best premier league team,

Entumbane received $1 600 for being the runners-up while third placed Extreme walked away $1200 richer.
Fourth placed Raylton scooped $800 while fifth placed Gold & Black received $400.

In Division One category champions Nketa Stars walked away with $1300 and the chairman’s shield for being the best club in the division.
Runners-up Tel-One walked away with $1000 while third placed Drill Hall received $800 and a shield for being the best ZRP club.
West Commonage and U.B.H who finished fourth and fifth respectively will be receiving $600 and $300.

For the chairman’s award categories Shylet Musono of Exchange Pool Club and Sithembile Dube of Shumba Bar Pool Club won the women’s excellence awards after they came first and third respectively in the National Carling Black Label Pool tournament.

In the men’s category, Terrence Mindu, Joseph Tamamikwa, Maradona Khumbula (all Entumbane) and McDonald Shamu of Nkulumane Pool Club scooped the accolade of Excellency award.

The trio off Khumbula, Tamamikwa and Mutizwa of Kings also clinched the Grandmasters awards.
Fungai Mudere of B-Metro was crowned Sports Writer of the Year, and he walked away with a shield and two tickets to Victoria Falls or South Africa.
