THE Bulawayo Pool Association has struck a deal with Fodya Private Limited who will sponsor the league for three months using their Mega Menthol cigarette brand. According to the BPS chairman Godfrey Kondo the deal is worth $5 280. As part of the deal, the sponsors will brand venues which are used for BPA Premiership matches and they will also provide teams with playing kit and uniforms for match officials.
Kondo said clubs would also get playing sticks as part of the deal.

“It’s now official we have been working on getting a sponsor and I am happy to announce that on Thursday we signed a deal with Fodya Private Limited which will run for three months.

“We believe that this is the first step towards better things to come for our association and we are proud that the corporate world is coming to support our sport.

“We shall be having the official launch on 29 June when we hold the first of the three Mega Menthol Singles Pool tournaments at a venue yet to be announced,” Kondo said.

An elated Kondo urged members of his association to continue displaying fair play and avoid squabbles as failure to do so would chase away potential sponsors.

“The prospects of this deal look promising and if we behave well and demonstrate to these guys that we are an organised league we might get more companies joining us.

“Fodya has been monitoring our progress in the media and now it’s time to protect their brand as well as ours and hope for better things to come,” said Kondo.

Since the start of the league in 2010, BPS has enjoyed support from the business community with Umguza Country Rest Camp being their first partners funding a singles’ competition.

It was after the Umguza Country Rest Camp competition that they approached Delta Beverages to sponsor them but the giant beverages manufacturer opted to hold a national tournament using their Black Label brand.

BPA has also been getting support from bar owners who bankroll tournaments from time to time.
Meanwhile, the Premiership enters Week 13 with police sides ZRP Central and Black Eagles of Support Unit Fairbridge locking horns at Central Police Station.

Championship favourites Kings play host to ONE while Entumbane will be away to Golden Lions.
