Bulawayo Pool Association boss Godfrey Kondo will be seeking re-election at the organisation’s annual general meeting at Raylton Sports Club on January 25.The BPA executive’s term has expired. Elections will be among key issues at the meeting.
Kondo has been at the helm for the past two years. He said he still has a lot to offer and believes he can grow the sport beyond its present level.
He will be challenged by Denis Tirivanhu who promises the association fresh ideas. Kondo said he still has unfinished business and projects that can promote pool to become a better sport. “I have a vision and passion for the sport. Sponsorship has been our major challenge but we have managed to mobilise resources to drive the sport to professional levels and players are taking something home for their families.
“I feel I can still do more through mobilising more regional and national tournaments,” said Kondo.
Tirivanhu, a businessman who is in the transport sector promised to bring more sponsorship if he is voted into power. “If voted into power I have the influence to play a positive role in the league or other tournaments. I have also spoken to my other associates who have promised to sponsor us,” he said.
During Kondo’s tenure in office, the BPA managed to establish a website, as well as play host to the Carling Black Label national finals for the first time.
He also sponsored the BPA awards. Meanwhile, other members seeking re-election are secretary-general Rafael Mukucha, publicity secretary Donald Wadawu and fixtures secretary Prosper Nsingo.
The trio are set to be retained as no one has so far shown interest in their posts.
