Dynamos have been given a bye in the three-team Bob90 Super Cup which is set to kickstart the 2014 football season. The Harare giants will meet in the final either Highlanders or Harare City who will fight it out in an elimination match on February 16 at Barbourfields Stadium.
The final has been slated for 23 February at Rufaro Stadium and Harare City have been roped into this year’s tournament by virtue of finishing third in last season’s closely-contested PSL race.
This is a departure from last season’s edition where only top-two teams Highlanders and Dynamos met in a two-legged final which the latter eventually won.
In 2011 top-four teams competed for this tournament. Bob90 Super Cup organising committee chairman Stan Kasukuwere promised an improved tournament this year.
“We want this year’s edition to be more exciting. We have always wanted it to get better by each season and fans should expect some good football,” Kasukuwere said.
The Bob Super Cup has become the third richest tournament in Zimbabwe after the BancABC Sup8r Cup and the Mbada Dimonds Cup.
Its prize money is better than that of the PSL whose winners pocket $70, 000, the same amount as Bob90 runners-up.
Last season’s Bob Cup winners pocketed $110, 000.- Supersport.
