POULTRY producers say they will be able to meet demand for poultry products during the United Nations World Tourism (UNWTO) general assembly.Producers are hoping to make a windfall from the general assembly which will attract thousands of delegates.
Women poultry producers in Matabeleland North have formed the Women in Poultry organisation to get maximum benefit from the general assembly.
Zimbabwe Poultry Association chairman Retired Colonel George Nare said that the step taken by the women chicken farmers was a good initiative.
“It is a good thing for women to form such syndicates ahead of the conference so that they maximise their business opportunities.”
He said poultry production had increased significantly and they were confident they would meet demand during the UNWTO general assembly.
“Local producers have improved production, there is no shortage of poultry in the country,” he said.
Rtd Col Nare said the supply of day old chicks had also increased which was a good sign of the growth of the whole industry.
He said local poultry products were of a superior quality compared to imported chicken.
“Our locally produced chicken is the best in terms of taste and quality and most people prefer it.”
He said the competitiveness of the industry was improving significantly as leading supermarkets in the country had more locally produced poultry products than imports.
