ZIMBABWEAN female powerlifter, Chido Maenzanise, has been invited to take part in the Western Cape Strongest Man 2024 in South Africa.
The competition will be held on April 20 at Langenhoven Gimnasium in Oudtshoorn. Maenzanise last year won a bronze medal at the African Strongman Championship that was held in Zambia.
The strong woman, who trains in power-lifting and strength wars and challenges, can lift up to 350kg at once. She is, however, in need of US$1 300 for her trip to be successful.
“I am supposed to leave on April 17 and I need over US$1 200 to US$1 300 which will cater for my trip to and from Zimbabwe.
“If all goes well, we will have activities such as truck pull, log press max, deadlift for reps, medley, yoke into sled pull, and farmers walk 40m for a time among other activities.
“So, the event will be for three days and the budget will cater for transport US$620, food US$200, accommodation US$180, registration fee US$20, and a supplementary budget for emergency US$200.”
Last time she needed US$5 000 to travel to the US for the World Strongman competitions.
The 28-year-old has a strong passion for powerlifting and has been participating and very active for four years now.
“I started participating in national powerlifting when I scooped gold in my first competition.
“From the year 2022 to date, I have been taking part in all local stages and just recently I managed to bring the bronze medal home when I had a chance to participate in the strongman/woman continental championships which were held in Zambia.”
