Nominated artistes from the City of Kings include rappers POY and MAC who are up for three and one award respectively. Dance crews Anti-virus and Break Equation are going to be in a head to head battle in the dance crew of the year category.
In an interview, POY said, he was thankful for being nominated for so many awards, saying it was all due to the hard work he and his team had put up the previous year. He was nominated for Best Male Hip-Hop Artiste, Best Hip Hop Video and the People’s Choice Award, which is presented to the artiste most favoured by fans.
“Being nominated for these multiple awards is great, because it shows that all the hard work that we have put in is now being recognised by the public at large. It is great to be nominated yet again for the people’s Choice Award, an award that I also scooped last year,” he said.
POY said being nominated for the awards was not the end for him, but only whetted his appetite for more success. He said the honour of being nominated for an award counted as a win in his books.
“I can promise the people that my nomination is only the beginning we are working hard to make the name POY a big brand.
Being nominated for the awards in itself counts as a win, because it shows people are happy with your work,” he said.
Ricco Andrews of Anti-virus Dance Crew said that was a great honour to be nominated for the award as it showed that their hard work and prayers to the Lord had been answered.
“Being nominated is a huge honour for the crew. We feel like the hard work that we have put up is finally coming to fruition. We have prayed a lot for this and it seems like the Man above has answered our calls,” he said.
Anti-virus, who are set to embark on a trip to Namibia in the coming weeks, will be up against fellow Bulawayo group Break Equation. Also nominated in the same category are Harare dance crews, Rolex and Flip-Floppers.
