POY pays tribute to Kingpin

Sithole, who works for South African urban music studio Ritual Lab, has worked with hip hop acts like Zuluboy among others. A video for the song, titled Imperial, is in the pipeline, with director Andy Cutta, who worked on the acclaimed video for POY’s song Mabambo already working on the project.

POY said the song was meant to celebrate the life of the late rapper.

“This song is a tribute to the late Tonderai Makoni who I believe was one of the best lyricists to come out of Zimbabwe. This is therefore my own personal acknowledgment of the late Kingpin’s talent,” he said.

POY said the late rapper had a lot of influence on his own career, as he had learnt a lot from the rapper before his untimely death.

He said a lot of young rappers today do not  have the talent and skills to match the likes of Kingpin.

“He had a lot of influence on me personally because we came on the scene round about the same time while I was still based in Harare,” he said.
