The creative sector is often synonymous with division, but that is set to change as the organisers of the Pumula Royal Arts and Community Awards (PRACA) and the Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAAs) have announced a groundbreaking collaboration, effectively resolving public concerns over both prestigious events being scheduled for the same date, 20 December.
Addressing recent discussions and apprehension, PRACA Management confirmed in a statement that the scheduling clash has been transformed into an opportunity for partnership rather than competition.
“We are pleased to officially announce that both organising teams have engaged in constructive dialogue and agreed to collaborate in the true spirit of promoting unity, growth, and mutual support within the creative industry,” the statement read.
The resolution involves a unique alignment of the two events on the same date. The sixth edition of PRACA will unfold as a three-day festival running from 18 to 20 December, with its main awards ceremony taking place during the day on the 20th. The BAA ceremony will then follow in the evening.
“This alignment offers a unique opportunity to celebrate creativity and community excellence across platforms on one historic day for the arts sector in Bulawayo,” PRACA Management said, framing the shared date as a celebration rather than a conflict.
The collaboration extends beyond mere scheduling. A BAA delegation will actively participate in the entire three-day PRACA programme (18 to 20 December), supporting its community and creative activities. In turn, all PRACA winners, staff, and partners will receive complimentary tickets to attend the BAAs ceremony in the evening of the 20th.
This arrangement forms part of a dedicated learning and exchange programme designed to promote professional growth, exposure, and networking between the two awards communities.
“This partnership reflects a shared mission to amplify local talent, strengthen collaboration, and foster inclusivity across all creative spaces. Together, we believe in building bridges, not barriers, and advancing the arts as a unified front,” the statement added.
The announcement follows just days after the BAAs unveiled their list of nominees for this year’s ceremony.
This renewed spirit of collaboration means nominees, winners, and attendees can now look forward to a full day of celebrating Bulawayo’s artistic achievements without having to choose between events.
PRACA Management urged the public to embrace the development.
“We encourage our communities, creatives, and stakeholders to embrace this spirit of collaboration and join us in celebrating both events as symbols of artistic excellence and community empowerment.”
This unprecedented agreement marks a major step towards greater cohesion within Bulawayo’s arts scene, promising a landmark day for the city’s culture on 20 December.
