ZIMBABWE professional golfers, who have been starved of competition on the local circuit, resume their rivalry this morning when they tee off in the Pre-Open Classic at Royal Harare.

The 36-hole event, which has a prize fund of $10 000, is being sponsored by the Zimbabwe Open Committee.

It is the first event on the local tour before the Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open to be held this month.

Tendayi Gwatiringa, the Zambezi Tour’s marketing and communications director, said all was set for the Pre-Open Classic and entries for the tournament had closed.

“We have a good field with local-based players as well as the likes of Ryan Cairns, Mark Williams, Greg Bentley and Sheldon Steyn who have been playing on the Sunshine Tour.

“In addition we have received entries from over ten South Africans.

“We have over 50 professional entries for the event which will be a 36-hole stroke play with a prize fund of $10 000.

“The event has attracted all these players as it is a perfect practising opportunity in preparation for the 2015 Zimbabwe Open,” Gwatiringa said in a statement yesterday.
