Emerging ZimDancehall artiste Preacher The Cardinal, real name Emmanuel Gwende, is ready to take the industry by storm with a staggering 102 fully recorded and mastered tracks.
The 33-year-old chanter, based in Mahatshula North, Bulawayo, says he has been patiently waiting for the right time to unleash his music, believing that he is now mature enough to make a lasting impact.
Although ZimDancehall is not as dominant in Bulawayo as it is in other parts of Zimbabwe, Preacher is confident that his unique sound and fresh approach will win over many fans.
“I’ve been working tirelessly for the past five years, recording music in the studio, and I believe the time has come to share it with the world. To date, I have 102 songs, all recorded from the heart, and I believe they have the potential to receive airplay.
“My goal is to redefine ZimDancehall in Bulawayo. The local industry is highly competitive, but if we support the genre, we can achieve great things.
“Personally, I have a lot of talent, but I lack the necessary support. I also urge radio stations to play my songs because I know many listeners will relate to my music, as I sing about everyday life and struggles,” said Preacher.
Among his extensive catalogue, Preacher has recorded a special track dedicated to his favourite football team, Scottland FC, which has become a major force in local football.
“I recorded Scottland Bhora as a tribute to my favourite team in the domestic league. Scottland FC has brought a fresh energy to football, and my song is a reflection of the love and admiration I have for the way they play the game,” he said.
Also known as ChiGosso, Preacher draws inspiration from the late ZimDancehall legend Soul Jah Love. He also admires Tocky Vibes and hopes to collaborate with him one day.
“I have so much respect for Tocky because he’s humble and down-to-earth. His music is mature and carries deep meaning. Working with him would be a dream come true,” said Preacher.
With a vast collection of songs ready for release, Preacher The Cardinal is determined to make a name for himself in the ZimDancehall scene.
