Pregnant driver found guilty in Byo hit-and-run

A pregnant woman, Shanon Ndlovu (27), was convicted of culpable homicide following a fatal hit-and-run accident in Bulawayo. Ndlovu who was driving a Toyota Fortuner, hit a cyclist, Mr Mandlenkosi Ndebele (41) and he died on the spot.

After the accident she did not stop to assist the victim.

In passing the sentence, Western Commonage magistrate Mr Mehluli Moyo said he took into consideration that Ndlovu was seven months pregnant and a first-time offender.

Mr Moyo said the court was also told that Ndlovu later assisted the bereaved family.

He fined Ndlovu US$300 or six months imprisonment.

The prosecutor, Ms Ellen Matenga, said the incident occurred on August 5 around 2pm along Nketa Drive.
