Pregnant teen stabs man over debt

A 16-YEAR-OLD pregnant girl has appeared in court for allegedly stabbing a 22-year-old neighbour with a knife over a $10 debt.

The girl, who cannot be named to protect her identity as a minor appeared before Gweru Regional Magistrate Morgan Nemadire facing an attempted murder charge.

The heavily pregnant teenager was remanded out of custody to April 4 for sentencing.

She pleaded guilty and asked the court not to imprison her saying she was eight months pregnant.

“Your worship l admit that I stabbed my neighbour with a knife on his abdomen and caused serious injuries, but I’m kindly asking for you to be lenient with me.

“I’m eight months pregnant and I don’t think l’ll be able to adapt to the conditions in prison,” she said.

Prosecuting, Kelvin Guveya said on October 24 last year, the girl had a misunderstanding with the complainant over $10 that the complainant had borrowed from her about two months earlier.
