Contrary to speculation of his dismissal, coach Tavaka “Dread” Gumbo took the players through their paces with a largely 2011 squad and a few unnamed additions.
Most of the players looked fit while a number struggled with their fitness confirming that some promotion winning players had held pre-season training with various teams.
The good news for the busmen is that midfield maestro Brian Juru, goalkeeper Alexander Useni and Central Soccer League 21-goal hero Callisto Maheya trained with the team.
Notably, controversial Tatenda Chingarah and captain fantastic Moses Jackson were missing.
Jackson has crossed the floor to the birds Chicken Inn while Chingarah allegedly deserted the club in the heat of the player registration scandal.
Gumbo remained mum on the names of the newcomers.
“We have a number recruited from Midlands-based clubs but negotiations are still in progress and we are assessing those players.
“When the time comes for us to announce this squad we will invite you but we hope to assemble a good side,” said Gumbo.
More players are expected from Bulawayo where Dread spent the weekend contacting potential players while the team officials travelled on Sunday possibly to open negotiations or tie up the loose ends.
There was still no sign of the speculated “huge financial injection” from Midlands-based mining giant Unki.
However, several local business people have established contacts with the club with intentions of assisting the club financially as partners or sponsors.
The co-directors, Takesure Sibanda and Harrison Matimati, could not be contacted yesterday as they were said to be in a series of meetings.
