PREPARATIONS for the Khanyisile Basketball tournament gained momentum following Friday’s draw.

The three-day tournament, themed “Dunk the Drugs Out,” runs from October 25 at Khanyisile Sports Centre.

The women’s draw saw UZ Sparks drawn in Group A to face Black Rhinos and Lakers Mzansi while group B consists of Vixens, Bulawayo City Towers and MSU.

The men’s draw has Black Rhinos, Legends, Warriors and Mbare Bulls in Group A with Group B having Young Starz, MSU, Harare Kings and Giants.

Bulawayo Basketball Association (BBA) President Sinda Mono thanked sponsors for their support.

“We’re excited about this tournament now in its third edition. It’s growing bigger and better featuring top teams from across the country,” Mono said.

Basketball once thrived in Bulawayo, particularly among the youths in the 1980s and 1990s.

However, internal issues and lack of sound funding led to its decline.

The sport’s resurgence, fuelled by events like the pre-season tournament and Khanyisile Basketball tournament, rekindles passion among young people.
