Preps for SME banking summit at advanced stage

PREPARATIONS for this year’s Small and Medium Enterprises’ (SME) Banking and Microfinance Summit are now at an advanced stage with about 250 delegates expected to attend.In statement, Deat Capital managing director Nicky Moyo said preparations for the event were progressing well.

“Preparations are going on well and we are happy about the progress, we are ready for the summit,” said Moyo.

He said this year they are expecting an increase in the number of participates from that of the previous summit.

“We are expecting about 250 local and international delegates to attend this year’s summit because this year’s event will be held in two days,” he said.

This year’s two-day SME Banking and Microfinance summit is set for March 24 and 25 in Harare.

“This year’s summit will run for two days following the success of the first edition last year in July, which attracted over 150 local and international delegates,” he said.

Moyo said they were working in collaboration with the Ministry of Small to Medium Enterprises and Cooperative Development and other organisations in organising the summit aimed at ensuring growth in the Microfinance and SME Banking sector.

“The summit will be hosted in collaboration with Ministry of Small to Medium Enterprises and Cooperatives Development, government of Zimbabwe and a host of leading local private sector organisations,” he said.

He said this year’s summit would focus on the development of Micro Small to Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and address topics such as trade finance for SMEs among others.

“There would be  sideline masters class workshops  focused on development of Zimbabwe MSMEs  with topics such as  Trade finance for SMEs, Inclusive Business, Value Chain Financing, Business  Strategic planning for MSMEs and Fundraising for Microfinance Institutions among other issues to be discussed,” said Moyo.

He said this year’s event aims to provide a platform for financial institutions to engage and share ideas on how to take up available opportunities in the sector.

“This unique event aims to present different experiences of financial institutions to successfully scale up financing for SMEs, highlighting opportunities for further growth in this segment,” he said.
