PREPARATIONS for the 10th edition of the Zimpapers Cancer Power Walk scheduled for November 1 across the country have reached fever-pitch with this year’s event expected to be bigger than previous editions.
The annual Cancer Power Walk, now a flagship initiative on the national cancer awareness calendar, once again brings together communities, corporates, and health advocates in a united stand against the scourge.
So far, the Zimpapers Cancer Power Walk, which is hosted simultaneously in Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru, Mutare, Masvingo and Chinhoyi continues to gain traction combining health advocacy with corporate and community solidarity.
The initiative is Zimpapers’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) flagship that not only raises funds for cancer patients but also educates communities about early detection, treatment options, and support systems for cancer patients.
This year’s event and other upcoming events running up to 2027, will be held under the theme, “United by Unique”.
The theme emphasises the importance of unity and diversity in confronting the disease, which does not discriminate based on age, gender, race, or background.
Zimpapers public relations and events manager, Mrs Pauline Matanda, said over the past decade, the Cancer Power Walk has grown into a flagship event on the national health calendar.
“As Zimpapers, we are incredibly proud to be hosting the 10th edition of the Cancer Power Walk on 1 November 2025 starting at 6am once again bringing together communities, corporates, health professionals, and individuals across Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru, Mutare, Masvingo, and Chinhoyi to amplify awareness, promote early detection, and raise vital support for those affected by cancer.
“Preparations are at an advanced stage, and we can confidently say this year’s event is set to be bigger and more impactful than ever before with a number of outdoor and indoor activities lined up — among them cycling, Zumba dance and aerobics as well as 5 kilometre, 10km and 21km walkathon and marathon.
“Cycling will be available in all areas, except Chinhoyi and Masvingo.
“Already, in terms of our participants the figure has risen by 40 percent,” she said.
Last year’s event attracted over 2,000 participants across the country.
Since the launch of the initiative in 2016, Zimpapers has raised and donated US$106,9832.13, reflecting the growing impact of the campaign.
At its inception, US$2,526 was raised and last year, the Cancer Power Walk reached a record breaking US$27,679.91 and ZiG43,043.39.
“We are exhilarated by the overwhelming response from our partners and the public.
“We invite everyone to join us in making this milestone edition a true celebration of hope, resilience, and collective action against cancer,” said Mrs Matanda.
“With just a few weeks to go, the organising team reports that resource mobilisation is well underway with both returning sponsors and new partners eager to support the cause.
“Promotional campaigns, media engagements, and stakeholder meetings have also kicked off as part of a broader mobilisation strategy.
“Cancer affects all of us — directly or indirectly. This event is not just about raising money; it’s about saving lives through awareness and early detection.
“We are calling on individuals, families, companies, schools, and community organisations to walk with us and be part of this life-changing initiative.”
