PREPARATIONS for the annual Under-17 tournament organised by Willard Katsande, the former Zimbabwe captain who clocked 200 games for Kaizer Chiefs in a winning cause on Wednesday night in Cape Town, are at an advanced stage. The annual tourney, which is in its fifth edition, is slated for December.

One of the organizers, Panganai Mbaradza, said the tourney will feature seven local and nine teams from other provinces.

“The tournament is going to be held in December here in Mutare. We will be using our local grounds. We will you advise of the dates. Katsande has to check with his soccer calendar in South Africa,” said Mbaradza.

“We will have seven teams from Manicaland and nine others from across

Zimbabwe.

“For the local clubs, it’s either they will choose representatives or they will play knockout games. The prizes are the same as last year.

“This year’s theme is, ‘Football Helps Us To Change,’ and our main aim is to change the face of junior football in the province.

“Last year, we had a successful tournament where we had teams from Gweru and Harare.

“We have to support our juniors so that we may produce great future stars. We want to support them to realise their dreams.”

Last year’s edition was won by La-Sakubva who dimissed Brian Mukunga’s Sheckon Stars 1-0 in the final at Sakubva.

La-Sakubva captain, Anelka Chivandire, scored the only goal of the match in the first half.
