Organisers of the Shangano Arts Festival are gearing up for the 18th edition of this celebrated event set to take place in Hwange and Victoria Falls from November 26 to 30.

The festival has been a vehicle for skills development and has been providing a platform for artists to interact with various stakeholders as well as showcase their talents. It will be held at two key venues: Hwange Little Theatre and Victoria Boxing Academy under the theme “Echoes of the Future”.

A number of activities, including workshops, performances, a children’s day and a young girls’ workshop, have been lined up.

Petros Ndhlovu, founder of the festival highlighted the event’s role in the creative industry.

“The Shangano Arts Festival has been a cornerstone of the Southern African art scene for 18 years, providing a platform for artists to showcase their talents and connect with audiences. This year’s theme, ‘Echoes of the Future’, encourages artists to critically consider how art can shape a better future.”

He noted that the festival aims to create a dynamic space for artists from Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa to present their work, share their stories and explore the role of art in development.

“We want to offer a vibrant platform for artists from rural areas to showcase their work, engage with audiences and peers as well as participate in workshops, masterclasses, and discussions on art, culture, and social issues,” Ndhlovu added.

“The festival will also promote cultural diversity, inclusivity and social cohesion, presenting the best of Southern African art and culture to both local and international audiences.” — @mthabisi_mthire
