President an honorary member of BAC

BAC Award (1)

BULAWAYO Athletic Club has the singular honour of having a sitting President as an honorary life member.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa was conferred with the honorary membership in 2014 after having officiated at the official opening of the African Union Sport Development Games hosted by the city. The honour was conferred on the then Vice-President by the sports club’s board led by its then chairman, Shephard Mpemba.

Speaking to Sunday Life last week, Mpemba said the club had decided to honour President Mnangagwa for the Government’s push towards sports infrastructural development. He said the honour was conferred upon him in recognition of his role in sports development in the country.

Mpemba said as a club BAC was honoured to have conferred the honorary membership to President Mnangagwa and also took the opportunity to call upon the President to make use of his membership whenever he was available to do so.

“We are happy that we conferred this honour on President Mnangagwa when he was still the Vice-President. He is a man with a passion for sport and we hope to see him make use of his membership at BAC in the not too distant future,” Mpemba said.

Mpemba said the membership allowed the President to make use of all of the sports club facilities for the rest of his life. @AllanFoti
