The Harare Municipality should encourage local businesses to adopt spaces surrounding their entities for sprucing up to assist in the beautification of the capital city.
President Mnangagwa said this during the commissioning of the Hyatt Regency Harare Hotel, formerly Meikles Hotel, as the 109-year-old facility formally changed hands after it was bought by United Arab Emirates-based Albwardy Investments.
This was after the new hotel owners committed to partner with the local authority to look after the surrounding environs of the hotel, including the beautification of the equally historic Africa Unity Square located across the hotel.
The hotel group made the commitment as part of practicing responsible tourism and fostering environmental protection in the surrounding area in keeping with the country’s national Clean-up and Beautification Programme.
“It is commendable, that the hotel is partnering with the Harare City Council to look after the surrounding environment, including beautification of the Africa Unity Square. Well done. I exhort you, the Mayor of Harare, Your Worship Councillor, (Jacob) Mafume to scale up the beautification of our capital city and encourage other hotel groups and businesses to adopt spaces surrounding their entities,” President Mnangagwa said.
“This culture of ecological consciousness and stewardship must become the standard norm as we scale up our quest to preserve and protect our natural environment and living spaces.”
President Mnangagwa urged Zimbabweans to embrace investments such as the Hyatt Regency Harare Hotel into the tourism sector with the commissioning of the hotel marking the dawn of a new era of growth and progress in the hospitality industry.
“I call upon other stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality sector to take a leaf from the excellent work, modern and immaculate facilities we are witnessing at this hotel.”— New Ziana.
