FIVE schools from Hwange District in Matabeleland North Province yesterday each received furniture comprising 100 desks and chairs from President Mugabe as he continues with his philanthropy.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe’s Mr Thembinkosi Magwaliba announced the beneficiaries at yesterday’s commissioning of Victoria Falls International Airport here.

He said the schools are Sikumbi Primary School under Chief Shana in Jambezi, Nechishala Secondary under Chief Whange, Kamalala Primary School from Chief Nekatambe’s area, Vulindlela Secondary from Mvuthu area under Chief Mvuthu and Dingane Primary School from Chief Dingane area in Dete.

Acting Chief Mvuthu commended President Mugabe for the kind gesture, saying the furniture would go a long way in capacitating the benefiting schools.

“We welcome President Mugabe’s gesture and hope this will go a long way in enhancing capacity building in the schools,” said Chief Mvuthu.

The donation came at a time when a number of schools around Matabeleland North Province are short of school furniture. This is despite the fact that the province is rich in timber, mostly extracted and taken elsewhere.

President Mugabe has said through Zim-Asset communities must benefit from their resources, which must not be exported in their raw form. —
