RESIDENTS of Makokoba and Nkulumane 12 yesterday received bags of wheat, rice and cutlery, which were donated by President Mugabe while scores of Nketa residents accessed free medical treatment. Speaking during the handover ceremony of the donated goods in Nkulumane 12, the Governor for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Cde Cain Mathema castigated Zapu for using the late Vice-President Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo’s name to pursue its own party agenda.

“People in Zapu are using Father Zimbabwe’s name during their campaigns and that should stop. They are saying that the late Vice President Dr Nkomo was their leader.

“How possible is that considering that when Father Zimbabwe passed on he was the Second Secretary of Zanu-PF, a party that was formed after the signing of the 1987 Unity Accord,” said Cde Mathema.

He said Zapu led by Dr Dumiso Dabengwa should desist from aligning his party with Dr Nkomo.

“They must stop aligning their party ideologies with those of the late Vice President Dr Nkomo as he was in PF-Zapu not Zapu. In fact, there was no party called Zapu at Independence.

“Why did they have to start using his name after his death? Why didn’t they form the party while he was still alive? Do not be misled by opportunists” he said.

Cde Mathema later addressed people at Nketa 9 Bus Terminus during an outreach medical programme.

He commended the ongoing free medical treatment programme, which was initiated and sponsored by Zanu-PF candidate for the Nketa National Assembly constituency, Cde Elifasi Mashaba.
About 3 000 residents have so far benefited from the programme.

Cde Mathema commended the medical team for its unwavering support to the community.
“They have pledged unwavering support for the people in the Nketa constituency with their medical skills,” he said.

Cde Mathema called on Zimbabweans to preserve the gains of the liberation struggle by voting for President Mugabe in the 31 July harmonised elections.

Cde Mashaba urged the electorate to vote for leaders that have the interest of people at heart.
Meanwhile, Zanu-PF candidate for Makokoba constituency, Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube also handed over Presidential donation in Makokoba.
He urged residents to continue working hard to build the nation.

“We are grateful to President Mugabe for the donation. We are going to distribute these plates, cups, torches and flasks that are a gift from the President.

“We are also happy that as a leader, President Mugabe has taken it upon himself to help the elderly and the vulnerable in our communities by giving them rice and wheat,” said Rtd Col Dube.
