AFRICA would be a world superpower within 10 years if the continent had three more leaders in the mould of President Mugabe, a Nigerian medical doctor and economist has said. In an interview at the Sixth All Africa Investment Forum in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, Dr Layo Adeniyi (62), the chief executive officer of Titlas Management Consultants, the organisation that convened the summit, said Zimbabwe and Africa were blessed to have President Mugabe.

The summit, attended by more than 400 delegates from 41 African countries, ended on Wednesday with participants optimistic of clinching lucrative business deals.

“The West is afraid of this African who has dared to dream and stand up for his country. This is a man who wants to eradicate the dependency syndrome in Africa. (President) Mugabe wants Africans to realise their self-worth. It is obvious the West would vilify him because as things stand, it is viewed as the superpower of the world. (President) Mugabe is a visionary who is likely to awaken the true superpower – Africa,” said Dr Adeniyi.

He said it was unfortunate that a number                                                                                      of Africans, including some Zimbabweans, had been brainwashed by Western propaganda into believing their “saviour” was the enemy.

“I see Mugabe (President) as a true African liberator in the mould of Jomo Kenyatta, Nkwame Nkrumah, Patrice Lumumba and Kenneth Kaunda. We have a number of African countries that are said to be independent, yet all the economic power is still in the hands of their colonisers.

“In Mugabe, we have a man who has said Zimbabwe is free, so there is no need to continue serving a past master. The country has to create a new history for itself. Who in the world does not know that Zimbabwe is for Zimbabweans? How many Africans can truthfully say the same of their countries?” asked Dr Adeniyi.

He said Zimbabweans should not blindly blame their President, but should join hands with him in ensuring that the country’s abundant natural resources were not used  “I have heard some Zimbabweans speaking ill of the various empowerment programmes initiated to create wealth for them and their children. Pardon my language, but I have to say they are b***dy lazy. African societies are largely agrarian. Here is a leader who is saying, ‘here is your land, take it, till it and grow food for yourselves and your children’.  Instead of being thankful, someone says no, foreigners should grow our food for us. They should sell it to us and dictate how we live on our own land,” said Dr Adeniyi.

Asked what qualified him to speak so authoritatively on Zimbabwe, Dr Adeniyi said he was a student of African politics.
“If you look at the history of the continent, you cannot help but notice how the West has continued to fight to destroy the legacy of progressive thinking leaders. Look at how Patrice Lumumba ended. Anyone who stands up to truly empower Africans is destroyed. It is a trend that Africans, who may still be imprisoned by the colonial mentality that anything white or foreign is better, have supported to their detriment,” said Dr Adeniyi.
