PRESIDENT Mugabe, who is in Kuwait for an Arab-Africa summit, yesterday met a top Kuwaiti transport and logistics business executive to discuss possible investment in the country.
Agility managing director, Tarek Sultan told Zimbabwean media after the meeting that his company was interested in exploring opportunities in tourism, aviation and transport-related industries in Zimbabwe.
“Zimbabwe has a developed infrastructure. Its strong relationship with Asia – which is going to grow – is very important for us as well.”
Sultan said his talks with President Mugabe had been very interesting and frank, adding Agility operated in over 100 countries, 30 of them in Africa.
“We have a growing presence in Africa and we are looking at increasing that presence,” he said.
African and Arab leaders have been meeting in Kuwait to explore ways of enhancing economic ties between the two regions.
The summit, held under the theme “Partners in Development and Investment”, saw Kuwait pledging to provide $1 billion to African countries in soft loans to develop infrastructure over the next five years.
The country also pledged another $1 billion through the World Bank and other financial institutions. — New Ziana.
