The Government has equipped Junior Members of Parliament with Samsung tablets to empower young leaders to amplify children’s voices while fostering community engagement using digital tools.
Speaking at the handover ceremony in Harare on Thursday, the Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province, Provincial Affairs and Devolution Senator Charles Tavengwa said the tablets, which were donated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, will help young leaders enhance their work in their different constituencies.
“Today, I take pride in handing over these tablet gadgets so that you can enhance your work in your different constituencies and the well-being of our communities, leaving no place and no one behind,” he said.
Senator Tavengwa congratulated the newly elected Junior Parliamentarians, commending them for their perseverance and efforts in advocating for children’s rights.
“The initiatives undertaken by the Junior Members of Parliament are truly commendable, and their dedication to fostering the growth and development of young individuals is a valuable contribution to our community at large,” he said.
“I would also like to acknowledge the invaluable contributions by some of you Honourable members to the growth of Harare Metropolitan Province and the country at large as you continue to complement the Government efforts in harnessing the youth demographic dividend.”
Senator Tavengwa urged the Junior Parliamentarians to remain committed to their education.
“Seek out opportunities to further your education, to gain more experience, and to deepen your understanding of the needs and of those you serve,” he said.
“Support one another, learn from one another, and collaborate to overcome the obstacles that you may face. Together, you can achieve remarkable things.”
Senator Tavengwa commended the work of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training through its parastatal, the Zimbabwe Youth Council, for enhancing meaningful youth participation, especially those in decision-making processes and governance.
