PRESIDENT Mnangagwa laid a wreath at Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China, on September 3, 2024, in significant diplomatic gesture.
The ceremony took place as part of the ongoing Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) 2024, which aims to strengthen ties between China and African nations.
Tiananmen Square, a site of historical and political significance, is home to several key landmarks, including the Monument to the People’s Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, the National Museum of China, and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong.
President Mnangagwa’s visit shows Zimbabwe’s commitment to deepening its relationship with China, particularly in light of ongoing economic challenges and the need for increased investment.
The wreath-laying ceremony was attended by Chinese officials and representatives from various African nations, emphasising the collaborative spirit of FOCAC 2024.
