President Mnangagwa meets China Rail International Group

IN a pivotal meeting, President Emmerson Mnangagwa met with the China Rail International Group, led by Chairman Bi Yanchun, on September 3, 2024.


Discussions focused on potential collaborations in infrastructure development, a critical area for Zimbabwe as it seeks to boost economic growth and improve its transportation network.

The meeting comes amid heightened engagement between Zimbabwe and China, particularly during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) 2024.
Zimbabwe recognises the importance of enhancing rail connectivity to facilitate trade and investment, which is vital for the country’s economic growth.

China Rail International Group, a leading player in global rail infrastructure, has previously undertaken several significant projects in Africa. The partnership aims to enhance Zimbabwe’s accelerated infrastructure development, which aids economic progress.

Analysts view this meeting as a strategic move for Zimbabwe, aiming to secure much-needed investment and expertise from China to revitalise its infrastructure and stimulate economic growth.
