President Mnangagwa is set to officially launch the highly-anticipated Munhumutapa Cup today, marking the unveiling of the country’s biggest football knock-out tournament.
The all-encompassing competition, which falls under the banner of Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), will bring together men and women, boys and girls, in line with the spirit of “leaving no one and no place behind.”
The Munhumutapa Cup will feature Premiership clubs, lower Division sides, Area Zones and organised social teams.
Junior teams will also be included, with full modalities expected to be unpacked at the launch.
The tournament is reportedly worth US$25 million over five years, with US$5 million allocated per season.
The senior men’s champions will earn the right to represent Zimbabwe in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Five-A-Side and Beach Soccer clubs will participate for the first time in a competition of this magnitude.
More than 300 senior men’s and women’s teams, at least 40 grassroots sides and over 160 Futsal and Beach Soccer teams are earmarked to take part nationwide.
