Harare, Zimbabwe, 17 September 2024— President Emmerson Mnangagwa officially opened the 2024 Presidential Innovation Fair today, emphasising the critical role of science, technology, and innovation as Zimbabwe marches towards its Vision 2030 goals.
President Mnangagwa highlighted the growing connection between the skills developed in educational institutions and the needs of local industries.

“We must emphasise science and technology innovation,” he said, commending young innovators for their dedication and hard work, which has significantly improved the quality of graduates emerging from Zimbabwean institutions.
The President noted that discussing the country’s abundant mineral resources is insufficient without tangible products or services to show for them.

He recalled observing a surge in innovations from the youth two years ago and emphasised that the Innovation Fair serves as an important platform to track these advancements.
With the number of exhibitors rising to 50 this year, up from 35 at last year’s inaugural event, the Fair showcases the growing commitment to innovation.

President Mnangagwa acknowledged the invaluable role of physical facilities, such as innovation hubs, in fostering this development.
He assured attendees that his Government would continue to create a favourable environment for start-ups, providing support capital and access to markets. “Market penetration and availability of goods should speak for themselves,” he said, noting that Zimbabweans are eager to consume locally made products.
The President acknowledged the hard work of all exhibitors and commended the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education for organising a successful event. “Those taking awards home today, well done; those who don’t must know their efforts are appreciated,” he remarked.
The 2024 Presidential Innovation Fair not only celebrates local innovation but also reinforces Zimbabwe’s commitment to self-sufficiency and economic growth as part of its educational framework rooted in Heritage Based Education 5.0.
