President Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially opened the Hopley Tariro Clinic and Youth Centre in Hopley suburb of Harare today in an event that was attended by Government Ministers and United Nations agencies representatives.
The official opening of the facility, constructed by City of Harare, coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations World Population day.
President Mnangagwa said today’s commemorations came at a time the country is preparing for the 2022 national population census that will provide the accurate figures of the country’s population.
Government, said President Mnangagwa, will continue to co-operate with development partners in providing service delivery in the country.
He said Government is also dedicated to develop the economy and end poverty.
“We remain committed to implement policies that will stimulate economic growth, development, poverty reduction and attainment of Vision 2030 as well as our quest to achieve SDG Number 8 on decent work and economic growth,” said President Mnangagwa.
He paid tribute to the City of Harare and the several United Nations agencies which contributed in coming up with the structure. Part of the funding came from the United Nations Population Fund, which has been in existence since 1981 in Zimbabwe.
The Head of State and Government also called for an end to all forms of domestic violence against women and children.
The facility will go a long way in alleviating health issues in the densely populated suburb with an estimation population of over 200 000 people.
